JOHNSON COUNTY, Ind. — A man from Martinsville was arrested Saturday night in Johnson County following a police chase that ended in a creek bed.
A sheriff’s deputy spotted 38-year-old Joshua Mercer “illegally navigate” the roundabout at Fairview and Morgantown Roads and then run a stop sign at Bluff Road without attempting to stop.
The deputy turned on his emergency lights to try and get Mercer to pull over, but instead, Mercer sped away.
Mercer headed west past State Road 37 onto the dead-end portion of Fairview Road, which turned into a gravel lane and then a field.
Mercer’s car and the deputy’s vehicle came to a stop in a creek bed, where Mercer was arrested.
A search of Mercer’s car turned up $3,457 in cash, just over one pound of methamphetamine, 1.5 ounces of marijuana, and drug paraphernalia.
Police say Mercer also appeared to be under the influence of drugs.
Mercer was being held Monday in the Johnson County Jail on multiple charges, including resisting in a motor vehicle, operating while intoxicated, and operating without having ever received a driver’s license.
