CARMEL, Ind. — The Carmel Police Department announced Monday it will expand its headquarters on Gradle Drive at Range Line Road.

The 31-year-old building is set to triple in size, making room for the department’s 134 sworn officers, 25 civilians, and four part-time employees. When complete, the building will also house the City Court and Clerk’s office.

Construction on the 74,742-square-foot building is set to begin next spring and wrap up in January 2024.

The Carmel City Council approved a $38 million bond for the expansion (along with other redevelopment projects). The bond will be paid using local income tax distributions. City taxes will not go up because of the project.
