CARMEL, Ind. — One woman’s day in Carmel began with stolen mail and ended in the back of a police cruiser.
Carmel police were called to Staghorn Drive on Thursday about someone driving through the neighborhood and taking mail from mailboxes.
When police arrived, they found a car that matched the description given and tried to pull it over. The driver, identified later as 23-year-old Makayla Burkart of Indianapolis, refused to stop and took off.
Burkart led police on a chase that ended in a parking lot, where the car was stopped and Burkart arrested.
Burkart faces the following charges:
- Resisting Law Enforcement
- Theft
- Driving While Suspended Prior
- Criminal Recklessness
Burkart also had outstanding warrants out of Grant and Marion Counties and is being held on those, as well.
