INDIANAPOLIS — You may have noticed the orange barrels popping up on the North Split. That’s only a tiny step towards an even bigger reconstruction project that will close the North Split down.

The full closure will happen around May 15, said Mallory Duncan with INDOT. They’ll be working to rebuild bridges and roadways.

“There will be exits you can get downtown that will be open, but as far as the main interchange that’ll all be closed.”

Duncan said the full closure will last around 18 months, but exits like the Michigan St. exit will open back up before the closure.

“You’ll have to change your city street routes once you actually get off, because Michigan or Ohio St. will be open, but it’ll spit you out in a different place than you’re probably used to getting off.”

She said the closure will be here before you know it, so it’s best to start planning how you’ll be getting around.
