BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — It all started as a simple welfare check.

Jose Mario (Joma) Leonardo, was found dead in an Eigenmann Hall dorm room around 6:30 Thursday night. Indiana University Police Deputy Chief Shannon Bunger says officers went to the dorm room to conduct a welfare check. That’s when police found Joma’s body.

Deputy Chief Bunger says Leonardo appeared to have been dead for some time when he was found.

While investigators are still trying to figure out how Leonardo died, police do not believe there was foul play. An autopsy was performed Friday, and results should come back in two weeks.

Joma Leonardo was a 20-year-old student from Indianapolis. He was a junior at IU, where he worked as a Resident Life Coordinator for Eigenmann Hall.
