FORT WAYNE, Ind. — Sweetwater, the world’s leading music technology and instrument retailer headquartered in Fort Wayne, says it made more than $1 billion in revenue in 2020.

Founder and CEO Chuck Surack says the achievement happened because of people who were stuck in their homes finding something to do, plus the “independent musicians, churches, and podcast producers everywhere.”

“What’s really important to me and flattering to me is how we were able to help so many people and particularly this year,” Surack told Inside Indiana Business. “I heard over and over how much therapy we were providing and how they always wanted to learn to play an instrument and now they have the time and we were able to fulfill 1.5 million customers’ dreams and aspirations and that, to me, is totally flattering.”

The company also added more than 400 jobs last year and opened a new distribution center that is nearly 500,000 square feet.
