GREEN BAY, Wis. — An Indiana man will spend 15 years in federal prison after traveling to Wisconsin to have sex with a teenage girl.
Ronald Ortega, 47, was sentenced Jan. 21 to 15 years in federal prison and seven years on probation.
Ortega will also have to register as a sex offender.
In June 2020, Ortega began messaging someone he thought was a 40-year-old woman. He expressed his interest in having sex with the woman’s 15-year-old daughter and arranged to meet the pair at an Oshkosh motel.
In July, Ortega traveled from Indiana to Oshkosh, bringing with him lingerie and sex toys. Prosecutors say he planned on filming himself having sex with the girl.
When Ortega arrived at the motel, he was met by police. Ortega had been chatting with an undercover police officer.
Ortega was arrested as part of Operation Kick Boxer, a campaign targeting people who abuse children and distribute child pornography, according to ABC 2 in Green Bay.
