WASHINGTON–You will pay more to heat your house and fill up your tank, says Rep. Greg Pence (R-6th Dist.). The congressman from Columbus condemned Pres. Biden’s energy policies Friday, saying the president is moving Hoosiers and Americans backward.

The president signed executive orders preventing construction on the Keystone XL pipeline, and putting new restrictions on energy, including a 60-day moratorium on issuing oil and gas leases on federal lands and waters.

“The Trump-Pence Administration prioritized America’s energy independence and put American energy and oil workers first. One day into his presidency, President Biden has banned new oil and gas permitting on public lands, killing American jobs and pumping the brakes on our economic recovery,” said Pence.

The congressman said he believes the new policies will put us at the mercy of other countries.

“Energy demand will continue in our nation, but with President Biden’s new ban we will depend on foreign adversaries instead of ourselves,” said Pence.

He said the moratorium will have negative impacts, particularly on the area of Indiana he represents.

“From power generation down to what Hoosiers pay to heat their homes and fill their tank at the pump, this decision may lead to higher energy prices across the Indiana supply chain.”

Biden’s move would allow the federal government time to decide whether any new permits or leases would be granted. The president has promised to phase out the use of fossil fuels over ten years time.
