LAKE COUNTY, Ind.–A person was killed and two others were taken to a hospital because of a crash on I-65 southbound in Lake County Monday morning.

State police say a black 2020 Maserati Ghibili was going south on I-65 on the ramp to Ridge Road. It went off the road and drove into the west ditch. The car eventually went airborne and hit a utility pole.

The driver of the Ghibili, Walter A. Allen, 28, from Chicago, Illinois was declared deceased at the scene by the Lake County Coroner.

Police don’t know what made Allen drive off the road.

The two passengers survived, but they had to be taken to a hospital in Crown Point with serious injuries.

Police discovered that the Maserati had been reported stolen to Chicago Police in December 2019. They also found two handguns, one of which had been reported stolen in Georgia. Investigators say ecstasy and marijuana were also found in the car.

State police say the investigation into the crash is ongoing.
