INDIANAPOLIS — The first zoo babies of 2021 are here.

On the first day of the new year, Glenda, a long-tailed macaque gave birth to a baby macaque. Then a few days later Kathy gave birth to another baby macaque.

The zoo said baby macaques are born weighing less than a pound and will cling tightly to their mother for protection. Since the two new babies are staying close to their mothers the zoo doesn’t know their genders.

However, the zoo said they were finally able to learn that a macaque born in November is a girl, and she’s been named Juniper.

They said Juniper has just started exploring a bit on her own, but her mother Momba is always close by.
