MUNCIE, Ind. — A Muncie man has won a federal lawsuit against his parents, who destroyed his extensive collection of pornography.

David Werking, 42, filed the suit last year against his parents, Paul and Beth Werking.

Werking said he lived with his parents for a time in 2016 and 2017, and during that time, they destroyed several boxes of materials he had left in their home, including DVDs, VHS tapes and sex toys.

The lawsuit referred to a January 2018 email Paul Werking sent his son, which reads, in part, “I do not possess your pornography. It is gone … Frankly, David, I did you a big favor by getting rid of all this stuff for you.”

“Some of the property was pornographic in nature,” the lawsuit said. “None of the property was illegal in nature.”

A U.S. District Court Judge ruled Werking’s parents must pay for destroying their son’s collection.

Werking estimated the value of his pornography collection at more than $25,000.
