BOONE COUNTY, Ind. — An elderly Boone County man died Thursday after he was hit by an SUV while checking his mail.
Police were called to the 8400 block east of State Road 47 at around 5:30 p.m. on a report of a person hit by a vehicle.
Officers arrived and found 83-year-old Leon Brandenburg unresponsive. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police believe Brandenburg had just gotten the mail out of his mailbox when he was hit.
The driver of the SUV, 41-year-old Kristen Valdez, of Kirklin, Ind., was not hurt.
Police are still investigating but do not believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.
