Dick Crum
Indianapolis gardening guru Dick Crum,
or "Dr. Dirt", shares his knowledge and wit on WIBC
every Saturday morning from 9 to 11 am on the "Down to Earth"
Show. Then, he's back on Sunday from 8 to 10 am as part of the
Home and Garden show.
Dick was the longtime horticultural educator with the Purdue University
Cooperative Extension Service in Indianapolis who retired in 1997.
But since then, he stayed busier than ever, dispensing more than
40 years of gardening knowledge to Indianapolis residents.
Dick, who grew up on a farm in Parke County, originally studied
entomology (bug science) at Purdue and wanted to work in an orchard.
But, when no job was available after he graduated, he took a job
with the Extension office as a horticulturist and that set him
on the path to become the city's most famous and most loved source
for gardening information.
