Weather is once again making it difficult to play for
championships.
Make sure you join Mark Jaynes and me on the website as
we try to bring you the baseball championships this weekend. The
weather is threatening to compress the championship into one day at
Victory Field, but since there is no finer facility, the games will
more than likely be completed by Saturday evening.
I am excited to be
a part of the broadcast team for a number of reasons, not the least of
which will be an opportunity to call the 4A game that features one of
the most important people in my athletic life, Coach Phil Webster from
Decatur Central.
When I was 15 and playing Babe Ruth baseball in
Plainfield, my coach that summer was an unknown in our community, but
had a passion for baseball and wanted to coach a team. Coach Webster

It is good to be back on
IHSAASports.org and frankly, I have no excuse for not contributing a
weekly blog. Rather than try to catch up with what has happened in the
Winter sports, I want to look ahead to a very exciting weekend of
Srpring Sports Championships.
Each player and coach begins the season
with the expectation of playing for a championship, and we are now down
to championships in Softball, Baseball, Girls tennis, and Boy's Golf.
You can watch the softball championships on the website Saturday, if
the weather will cooperate.
In 1A, Frontier plays Whiting and
Indianapolis Lutheran plays Tecumseh. Whiting features one of the most
dominating players in the state in Mel Dumezich. She is the state's
leading hitter, has a 0.20 ERA, 30 wins, and leads the state in
strikeouts. How much more can one player do for her team?
